IBB to Compete in 11th U.S. Open

7 Oct 2013

The Illinois Brass Band will compete with brass bands from five states at the 11th Annual U.S. Open Brass Band Championships, an all-day event beginning at 9 AM Saturday, November 2, at the Delora A. Norris Cultural Arts Center in St. Charles, IL.

"The U.S. Open is a unique event that gives bands an opportunity to combine their music with just about any kind of storyline and entertaining extra they can dream up. Win or lose, it's always a real crowd pleaser," said IBB President William Kaempfe.

Competing with IBB will be the Chicago Brass Band and the Prairie Brass Band, both from the Chicago area. Other bands include the Capital City Brass Band, Lansing, Michigan; Dublin Silver Band, Columbus, Ohio; Eastern Iowa Brass Band, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Fountain City Brass Band, Kansas City, Missouri.

The bands will compete for awards including best overall performances, most entertaining presentation, best performance of a march, best new composition or arrangement, and best featured soloist.

Tickets for the all-day event are $25 and can be purchased at the door or online at usopenbrass.org.
