IBB Names Wainwright Artistic Advisor

Andrew Wainwright, widely admired British-born composer, arranger and
performer of brass band music, has been named Artistic Advisor to the
Illinois Brass Band.
"This is an exciting time for us," said IBB President William Kaempfe. "I believe Andrew's ability and experience will help take us to the next level of musical excellence." A longtime member of The Salvation Army (SA) and currently Divisional Music Director for the SA in Wisconsin, USA, Composer in Residence to Virtuosi GUS Band and Editor of SA Bandsman magazine, Wainwright holds a music degree from Middlesex University. His composition skills were first recognized in 1997 when he became runner-up in Performance in the Arts Channel's Young Composer of the Year competition for Great Britain.
His many projects include arranging Karl Jenkins' works 'The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace' for brass band, choir, and organ, 'Stabat Mater', and 'Gloria' for brass band. Both have been performed by Black Dyke and Cory bands, amongst others, including performances on BBC Radio 2. He has also been commissioned by soloists such as Brett Baker, David Daws, David Childs, Chris Jeans, James Fountain, Les Neish and Sheona White. In addition, Wainwright was the organizer of the 'Brass for Africa' concert series, which raised nearly £12,000 for various African projects.
As a performer, Wainwright has played in numerous ensembles including Cory and Virtuosi GUS bands, and participated in tours of Europe, North America and Africa.
"I know I speak for everyone in the IBB when I say that we are thrilled to have Andrew's expertise, talent, and brass band wisdom in our corner," said IBB Music Director and Principal Conductor Stephen Squires."Andrew is a gifted composer and arranger with a unique and creative flair - we are so pleased that he will be sharing his magical touch with us and with our audiences."
Commenting on the appointment, Wainwright, said, "I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with a band of this calibre. IBB is a band with an exciting future and I am sure the partnership will be mutually beneficial, as well as helping to strengthen links with the SA."
The Illinois Brass Band, now in its 22nd concert season, is an all-volunteer, British-style brass band partially funded by the Illinois Arts Council. Winner of six North American Brass Band Championships, the IBB plays approximately 20 concerts a year in venues throughout the Chicago area.
