Illinois Brass Band 2014 Year in Review

29 Dec 2014

The Illinois Brass Band would like to thank everyone who came out to our holiday concerts. We hope that the sounds of the brass band inspired your holiday season.

A recap of the past year saw IBB performing 18 times at various venues throughout the Chicago land area. The highlights from this past year include competitions, visiting musicians, and a premier performance. The IBB traveled to Grand Rapids, MI in April to compete in the North American Brass Band Association Championships. In June, we hosted and featured internationally recognized euphonium virtuoso Mr. David Thornton. In October, we staged a Sousa era concert complete with Sousa impersonator Dr. Peter Griffin, chair of the music department at Elmhurst College, leading the band. Our recent holiday concerts featured a newly commissioned arrangement of The Twelve Days of Christmas by IBB Artistic Advisor Mr. Andrew Wainwright.

None of our performances would have been possible without the support of so many groups. We would like to take a moment to thank our loyal audiences, advertisers, music director, assistant conductor, board of directors, announcers, ticket and CD sellers, our printer for graciously printing our program/ad book, soloists who have performed with the band, and our own talented musicians. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the staffs at all of our performance venues who help us with many details before we take the stage. Additionally, our thanks go out to the First United Methodist Church of Arlington Heights for their gracious hospitality in providing weekly rehearsal space.

We have many great things in store for the year ahead. We will once again be competing in the North American Brass Band Association Championships to be held in Ft. Wayne, IN. We have been asked to participate in an all day Brass Festival at Northern Illinois University in April. We will also make our first appearance on the Freeport, Illinois Community Concert Association concert series in April. We are actively booking our summer concerts and planning our fall concert series tentatively titled God and Country, so please check our website frequently for the latest updates.

Best wishes from The Illinois Brass Band for a safe and healthy new year.
